Its been pretty dead at the shop these days so its been pretty bitter sweet. Money isnt really coming in but it leaves loads of time to catch up on other artwork and projects in the queue. It also gives me the opportunity to bring in local clients and do tattoos i want to do. Again im taking a blow money wise with these tattoos but theyre so worth it in the end because theyre personally gratifying. I will never say no to a super rad tattoo idea because of price. You can quote me on that.

Below are some sketches i did the other day just tryna warm up. some paintings in progress and some tatterz done the past week. the day of the dead girl is a work in progress as well.

December has been pretty slow overall as far as work but not so much in my personal life. we just added a fourth member to the Taumaoe Clan and its pretty exciting! welcome Cheyne Malu Anne Taumaoe!! im now out numbered 3 girls to my one male self. oh well. boys are too much drama. lol.

ok i def. have to note that i was sporting morning hair here. i dont really try to do my hair like pink.

Holy Weird Al Yonkovic!

November has been a pretty busy/boring month but i did some cool stuff in there. One specific stuffs was a cool tattoo on a super awesome, super sweet girl Christina who came all the way from OZ to pay tribute to her favorite musician/comedian of all time, Weird Al. And how was this done you ask? oh just him as JESUS CHRIST. No biggie. lol. it was an awesome tattoo to do and i had tons of fun with it. we got about 6 hours into and i would like to spend probably another 3 on him to sharpen him and some background up. good times though.

I also got to do a cool chickadeeznuts aka "asshole bird" bird on an old friend and a cat on a new one!

So heres some ish from lately. some small street shop tattoos and a couple sketches for people who didnt show up. Im actually still waiting for the nesting doll one so theres a chance that might come through (cross fingers). Been pretty whatever lately really. Its the Holiday season so the shops been slow and ive been too lazy to really do anything.

What i usually do is get art books for inspiration so....i did.

I got Fables covers by James Jean a favorite artist and A graphic novel called The Tikitis put out by Humanoids. Totally inspired but still lazy. . .blah. I attribute that to my lack of healthy living lately but IT WILL CHANGE DAMN IT!!!

Another slow night in Vegas but atleast the crazies are always out.

Halloween Quick Pages!

So Halloween is nearing and the airs got that fresh and cool kinda smell perfect for trick or treating and going to haunted houses! And what did i do to prepare, other than condition my body to eat copious amounts of sugar laden items in various shapes in sizes, you say? well, draw of course.

So this is one of my latest "flash sets" that ive come to call 'quick pages'. Mainly cause im not clever enough to name it anything else. just fun and goofy sketches that would be really fun to tattoo. Most recently i did one with a vegas theme and this one is, obviously, a Halloween theme. next im thinking old school nautical but well see when we get there.

The main objective of these are for warm ups and fun so i dont try to spend loads of time on any of the sketches. That would defeat the purpose i guess and these would be something totally different. Maybe when i get over my laziness ill sit down and do some serious flash but until then im just gonna do fun little quickies. Enjoy!

Stylized hula pinup work in progress. I used his wifes face for reference when I was drawing up the face. obviously not an identical likeness. I was going for a similar look so the pinup was original with a sense familiarity for the client.

So i recently did some art for a show at one of the monthly/bi monthly shows at the awesome Studio 21 Tattoo shop. My pieces involved doing line work of some sketches i did in illustrator and then coloring them black n gray with water color. a cool experiment that i think ill try again soon.

But anyway, this inspired me to actually try doing a traditional, "classical" and tangible piece of art!!! with no digital program! say whaaaaaaat!

so ya im lazy and dont like taking the time if you can do it in Ps or Ai but i think i enjoyed it. here is my first watercolor and ONLY watercolor (not that its not obvious).

So the likeness isnt great and the comp. is totally weird but i enjoyed myself. i started to get fed up and just dabbed wherever i wanted. i was only going to just do the pac mans face but got carried and away and actually started messing the freakn thing up but its Monday, no one came into the shop and i was bored/inspired.

Im really going to try to plan out the next ones. preparation is key in this im starting to understand. rendered pre sketches or something, atleast better bodies

Flash for fun

So about a week and a half ago i started doin dumbish flash drawings that would be kinda fun to tattoo and so i came up with 7 pages of vegas flash. a bunch of small drawings (the biggest one the size of my palm) and came up with vegas themed stuff or things that remind me of vegas.

in the end i figured about only 1/4 of them would ever even be considered for an actual tattoo but they were fun to do anyway and if someone did by chance want these tattooed they totally be cool to do.

This past week i had the priviledge to tattoo many a roller derby girl! They are seriously the coolest bunch of chicks ive met. even cooler? they dont mind being called chicks. lol. It was soo crazy busy that i only really had the chance to photograph 'Irush N Heat' 'Jessa AKA SuperGlue Bell' and the classy 'Knuckle Slambitch'. Three awesome women outside their derby awesomeness. Check them and their hip checkin pals at Hellsgate Rollergirls!

Its not very often you get to do cool tattoos in a street shop but these roller girls were never short of great ideas. "Oh you want a tattoo of two bearded mermaids in the shape of a gemini?" "whats that? An octopus wrapped around a rocket flying through space?" or maybe a set of zombied roller derby legs surrounded by the numbers of her derby mates in blood? (a cool tattoo done by buddy and inverse twin Kelly Hotdog Severtsen. check him out)

But it was also a good week to just be a street shop cause even the typical quarter sized 'cause its Vegas' tattoos were fun! By far the most open and expressive people weve had the chance to tattoo out of all the Conventions in our modest Las Vegas strip shop.Another example of how lucky i am to tattoo cool people for a living. Listening to peoples life stories and backgrounds will never get old to me, from all the Graphic designers, Photographers, Secretaries,Military personnel, Moms and students (in this convention alone). A daily reminder that our world is always moving and lives are always intersecting. Till next year Rollercon.

PS dont barf in the pool next time.

Artwork from Philips sketch book

So the other day i had the pleasure of tattooing fellow artists Philip Harris (illustrator) and Stuart Beer (Animation)

They were both on thier way to the Frisco Bay via Greyhound from New York!! crazzzziness! i wouldnt last that long on a greyhound. The lingering smell of feces would get to me.

Philip and Stuart came in wanting thier first tattoos. I was taken back at the sketchbook Philip had his sketch in, chalk full (not really, hes still fillin it out) of awesome pen n ink sketches of his travels through the country. Philip wanted my take on a traditional gypsy tattoo that he drew up in his sketch book, and Stuart wanted a cool little vector planet.

Its not everyday you come across cool clients not to mention amazing artists. Check out Philips super cool pen n ink illustrations by checking out the link on his name. This weeks tattoos

- The owl i did last night. it was a kind of stretch mark cover up under the arm which is like double bad skin to work on. was a challenge but made fun by the subject matter. i could draw and tattoo owls all day.

- The Samoan pinup is of a girl sporting the traditional samoan Malu which is a tattoo worn on women on thier legs. the mens version is known as the Pe'a. it was super fun to do. Ive got one more session on it though.

-The last was an arrangement of Poppies my aunt wanted while visiting vegas. another fun thing to draw and tattoo.

Man is it hard to keep this thing updated. Anyway, lifes good and im still tattooing!!

Im enjoying a downswing of inspiration because its giving me time to recharge and do other things than art. Im in my third week of no art production but tonight broke that trend and im working on some pretty cool sketches and starting to feel the bug again and definitely feeling the urge to produce and learn and produce and learn.

After a crazy week in Chicago and a good friends wedding and recovering from that its good to get back into the swing of things so i can concentrate on becoming a better tattoo artist and artist in general. im trying to make Thursdays my update day so i hope hope hope that i can at least keep this updated on a weekly bases. peace!

Okay so compositionally speaking this isnt the best piece but some of the details are nice which ill admit i often obsess over. so pretty much i sold out on this one caring only for the cool factors of the piece like small details here and there. its basically a painting of cool parts. if i had the patience i could totally rework this and finish all the renderings and re-compose? it to better appeal to the eye but lets face it, im not patient and and some of the piece is half assed but here it is none the less.

the following are some pics from a show me and some friends participated in for fun downtown last night. the theme was circus and we all had a lot of fun hanging out and seeing what everyone came up with. sadly i wasnt able to get pics of all the other great stuff because my camera broke mid-show and was too shaky to take photos.

This is my attempt at a christmas card for my folks to send out. Its not finished its still missing a guitar case full of coal. When i was younger my dad thought it was funny to wrap little presents in a bigger box the shape of whatever we really wanted that year. I took that idea and went with this. so the boy will have a guitar case opened with a bow on it but its full of coal and then obviously behind him his parents really do have the guitar as my parents always did after having a laugh at my expense. im not so sure the illo illustrates this idea well enough even after i put the guitar case in so im not sure ill give them this but who knows.

means death do my hard drive. im on a friends computer because mine is being sent to the apple store soon to be gutted and replaced...hopefully. i was lucky to see that i had just a week before my warranty ended so i guess im lucky kinda. the worst part of all of it though is that i never back up my computer...yup art work...gone....pictures....gone.....months and months of finding picture reference and inspiration...gone....all my textures and brushes....gone......all my scanned sketches neatly organized into categories....gone. i am pretty upset but not really. might just be initial shock but whatever. i come to terms with things pretty fast and knowing that i wasnt backing things up i kinda knew what could happen and accept it and will move on......MAYBE!!!! I HATE COMP PROBLEMSS!!!!!!!!
